Anderson To Debut New Summit Racing Camaro in Gainesville

Greg Anderson will arrive at the 44th annual Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Auto-Plus Raceway at Gainesville with a sense of eager anticipation as he awaits the first day of the event and the unveiling of a brand new Summit Racing Chevy Camaro. The historic Gatornationals, the third of 24 races in NHRA’s 2013 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, has been a very productive event for Team Summit in the past, and Anderson hopes to see history repeat itself.

“We’ve been out testing with the new car, and we’re excited,” Anderson said. “We definitely learned a few things, and this new Summit Racing Chevy Camaro shows promise. What’s even more exciting is that we have another new car coming. It won’t be done until after the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas next month, but we’ve built two new cars to go along with the two cars that we already have, and we’re hoping for big things. We haven’t had a great start to the season, but this KB Racing team is getting closer to where we need to be. We made up a little bit of ground from the first race of the season in Pomona to the race a couple of weeks ago in Phoenix, and we’re sure going to try to turn our season around in Gainesville this weekend. Hopefully, this car will be just what the doctor ordered for me.”

Anderson relishes the opportunity to return to the historic racetrack where he has twice reset the national record for elapsed time. Anderson also scored the Gatornationals victory in 2004 and 2007, and in the past two seasons, the Mooresville, NC resident has campaigned Summit Racing colors in the final round.

“Obviously, I have to figure out how to stop knocking off work early on Sunday,” Anderson said. “Our Summit Racing team has had lots of success there in the past, but I haven’t been able to close the deal the last two years, and it’s time to change that. We love the facility; it’s a Pro Stock-style racetrack with a very, very good racing surface. It’s very smooth, and you always get good air conditions when you go down there. It’s exactly what we in Pro Stock love to race on, so we look forward to going to Gainesville. The more you bring, the faster you can run. Heck, you can give it everything you’ve got there, and that formula has been good to us in the past. Hopefully, it continues to be.”

As if the weekend ahead didn’t already hold plenty of excitement, Anderson will observe a special occasion the day before he takes his brand new Summit Racing Chevy Camaro down the dragstrip for the first time at Auto-Plus Raceway at Gainesville: the four-time NHRA Pro Stock world champion turns 52 years old on Thursday.

“I don’t like to make a big deal out of my birthday–you know I’ve had a few of these things already,” chuckled Anderson. “But to be honest with you, I’d sure like to give myself a belated birthday present with a win on Sunday. New toys always excite us, and I’ve got one. I’m really looking forward to this weekend and bringing out the new Summit Racing hot rod.”
