Presidents Day Quiz: Match the Presidents to their Personal Rides
OK, this isn’t really a quiz as much as it is a game. Just think of it as an extension of all the parades and fun and partying you’ve probably been enjoying as part of Presidents Day. After all, this holiday ranks right up there–with Arbor Day and Columbus Day.
Then again, Presidents Day would probably have just a little more credibility if everyone knew some of the cool cars these guys drove. Sure, these guys were the leaders of the free world and have led the most powerful nation on earth, but you’ll respect them just a little more once you match the car to the President. (Scroll the slide show below for the answers)
The Presidents
1. Barack Obama 2. Richard Nixon 3. William Taft 4. Bill Clinton 5. Dwight D. Eisenhower 6. Franklin D. Roosevelt 7. John F. Kennedy 8. Ronald Reagan 9. Harry Truman 10. Lyndon B. Johnson
The Cars
A. 1956 Chrysler Imperial
This Presidential favorite packed a HEMI V8 and featured the rocket-ship style fins that were so popular during this period–a period in American history that this President helped shape.
B. Amphicar
This car still resides on the ranch where its Presidential owner lived. It has been reported that the President would play jokes on guests by pretending to lose control of this amphibious car and veering it into a lake. Not what we’d expect from this particular President.
C. 1946 Ford Super Deluxe
Although this President’s Super Deluxe differed in color from the one shown in the picture, his was one of the first to roll off the Ford assembly line after World War II.
D. Ford Escape Hybrid SUV
Please…if you guess this Escape Hybrid belonged to William Taft or Franklin D. Roosevelt, go ahead an excuse yourself from the game. In fact, excuse yourself from society at large. You’re no longer needed.
E. 1909 Baker Electric
With a top speed of 14 miles-per-hour, this car could get from Washington D.C. to Camp David in five days flat. But don’t quote us on that. Fact is this car was pretty high-tech for the times and was one of the few motor vehicles around not utilizing a hand crank.
F. 1932 Packard Twelve
This President’s Packard Twelve was fitted with armor, making it the first Presidential armored vehicle. It also featured an impressive V12 engine to match his years in office (that was a hint).
G. 1967 Ford Mustang
Of all the Presidents listed in the answers below, which one could you most envision cruising around in a ’67 Mustang? Taft? Truman?
Or maybe it was someone who appreciated the sexy curves of this Detroit classic. Hmmm.
H. 1961 Ford Thunderbird
This car was featured in its owner’s Presidential inauguration parade. It was the first year for this generation Thunderbird’s “Bullet Bird” styling.
I. 1952 U.S. Army Jeep
This Jeep was given to the President as a gift from his wife in the 1970s. Used extensively on his ranch, this version of the military Jeep was the one that was eventually developed and sold for civilian use.
J. 1950 Oldsmobile 98
This President’s 1950 Oldsmobile 98 dates way back to his nomination for vice-president and was even referred to prominently in one of his speeches.
Nothing tricky about the answer. We have faith you’ll figure it out.
