Throwback Thursday: Old School Carburetion Circa the 1920s

OK, Thursday. We’ll play along.

We’re jumping on the Throwback Thursday bandwagon with some vintage photos and literature, starting with this 1920s-era carburetor brochure a friend found in his grandfather’s basement. We love the highly detailed, exploded view of the float-style carburetor. The Toledo, OH-based company was well known for its float-style and diaphragm-style carburetors, has been manufacturing carburetors since 1914, and is still in existence. The brochure is dated August 22, 1922.

Can anyone name the company?

Leave your guesses in the comment section.

UPDATED (Friday, May 16): The above brochure is from the Tillotson carburetor company in Toledo, OH.

Willys is a good guess because the Tillotson Mfg. Co. was originally organized to supply Willys-Overland. And Stromberg isn’t bad either, because Harry Tillotson, Tillotson’s founder, was a salesman for Stromberg before starting his own company. Walbro, well that’s way later, like in the 50’s or 60’s, but still has a Tillotson connection because Wally Walpole, who started Walbro, was an ex-Tillotson engineer.
