Ford Unveils 2018 Cobra Jet: Fastest Production Straight-Line Mustang Ever

It’s been a half-century since the first Ford Mustang Cobra Jet was unleashed on the world, dominating the competition at the 1968 NHRA Winternationals.
Now, on its 50th anniversary, Ford Performance introduces the fastest Cobra Jet to date—a track-only pony car capable of mid-eight-second ETs in the quarter-mile, crossing the lights at over 150 mph.

Before we go any further, let’s be clear. This is a track-only turnkey race car, purpose-designed and built for specific NHRA, NMCA, and NMRA competition classes. They won’t have VIN numbers and, as such, can’t be driven on the street.
Under the Cobra Jet’s hood is a supercharged 5.2L Coyote V8. The chassis now boasts a unique four-link rear suspension, ditching the stock Mustang’s independent rear suspension to accommodate a Ford nine-inch rear axle.
The new CJ also receives an NHRA-approved roll cage, special Weld wheels, racing seats, and 50th anniversary badging.
The bad news? Ford’s only going to produce 68 of them (see what they did there?). You can order yours in Race Red or Oxford White, with an optional 50th-Anniversary graphics package.
Big Deal…. The Demon is on the street NOT the track …., How about something for the street.

Ya, like the first two post, who cares, we want a fast car for the street. BTW, what is the cost of that CJ? Summit Racing can build a faster track car for me!
Thinking the Demon is a daily street car is laughable. It was designed to run quarter mile runs. Put it on a curvy mountain road and you will soon understand it’s purpose. You can’t compete at most sanctioned strips because the Demon doesn’t come with a roll cage. And you won’t take a long cruise in it because of the gas mileage and the cheap little seats installed. Like the new Stang it is a purpose built car
But street cruiser it’s not.
