Updated 9/18/2014: While speculation continues to run wild on the Hellcat’s actual horsepower and emissions status, here is one thing we do know for sure: The Challenger SRT Hellcat gets pretty darn good gas mileage for a 700-plus (or 800-plus, depending on who you believe) horsepower vehicle. The EPA ratings are out, and the Hellcat gets 22 miles-per-gallon highway and 13 miles-per-gallon city when equipped with the eight-speed automatic. The six-speed manual-equipped Challenger SRT Hellcat gets 21 mpg highway/13 mpg city.

Compared to similar cars, that’s good. Read the entire Chrysler press release here.

9/17/2014: Another week, another Hellcat rumor.

While OnAllCylinders tends to stay away from speculation, this is too good to ignore.

Jalopnik is reporting the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat actually dyno’d at 825 horsepower. But it has one little problem: emissions.

According to reports, the Hellcat’s powerplant might not be meeting emissions compliance. As the rumor goes, the production version of the Hellcat was detuned from 825 horsepower to its current evaluation of 707 hp in order to meet emissions, but that’s still not happening. Chrysler is currently testing the engine with two sensors the company has never used before—a Mazda mass air flow sensor and wideband O2 sensor.

Of course, none of this is confirmed (it originated from an anonymous Chrysler source to Jalopnik), and Chrysler is being mum on the speculation.

But that has never stopped a car guy from dreaming before, right?

One other juicy tidbit: some speculate Chrysler is considering killing the Viper and allowing the Hellcat to serve as Dodge’s flagship car. There could definitely be something to it considering Dodge is discounting the stagnant Viper by $15,000 to generate sales.

Could you live in a world without the Viper? Would the Hellcat serve as an adequate replacement? Does the 825 horsepower rumor have you salivating yet? Tell us below!

We’re in the middle of the horsepower wars with the big three nothing is impossible, if gm wanted to build a car to pass the 707 the hc has it wouldn’t be a problem just get someone to sign off on it that’s all!

This will come to an end when some idiot buys one for his 16 year old and the kid end up killed in a wreck. The problem is it will kill the Chevrolet and Ford with them.

Still, I’d like to have one. I can’t wait to see how one of these compare on a race course against a Z28. This is what dodge does well. They can’t make a car that handles well, so they dump in a ton of HP to compensate. I love it! I hate it! I must have it!!

Gm cant make a car that looks like anything but shit !! Scumarro guys dont even like the baby scaddilac !!! For gm to build an engine of the hellcat equivalent it would have to have hemi heads. Chrysler owns the copyright and aint sharing. So all u blow tie queers can go suck a blow tie while ur at it….. in nhra phord, shivvvvvy & yoyotta still race the hemi design , the only way they can compete !!!

Dodge needs to take advantage of this opportunity. Off packages on the hellcat. Like a drag pack, acr package, etc make that car fit multiple rolls and this car will dominate in sales
